How They Work

Carotenoids are a class of naturally occurring pigments synthesized by plants, algae, and photosynthetic bacteria that give plants their rich yellow, orange, or red colour. α-Carotene, β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, and lycopene are the most common dietary carotenoids. α-Carotene, β-carotene, and β-cryptoxanthin are pro-vitamin A carotenoids, meaning they can be converted to retinol by the body. Among its functions include:
