Lutein Extra Strength 20mg with Zeaxanthin
Main Ingredients
Lutein
How It Works
Lutein is a xanthophyll and one of 600 known naturally occurring carotenoids and comes from the Latin word, luteus, which means “yellow.” It’s only made by plants, and it’s abundant in green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, and yellow carrots, along with other xanthophylls. Lutein can also be present in animal fats and egg yolks. Lutein and zeaxanthin are isomeric, with the exception of one double bond and can be interconverted in the body via a compound known as meso-zeaxanthin.
Despite the fact that lutein is concentrated in the macula (a small part of the retina responsible for three-colour vision), its specific functional role in the retina has yet to be discovered.
